240x vs 240z Whats the difference?

#1 Post by nooneyouknow » Sun Apr 09, 2006 2:21 pm

I looked around and can't find the spec for the 240z. What is the difference between the 240x and the 240z?

TIA

If you use this page, and put in 240Z, then type 2609, you can compare the specs on the individual models.

About the only differences I'm aware of is that the 240Z was available with up to a PIII 600MHz CPU and an XGA display.

Yeah, there aren't any documents listed, but it would list the individual specs for each model:
Product support

Product: ThinkPad 240Z 2609-DY1 [change]

Operating system: All [change]

Original description: Celeron 500MHz (128KB) 128MB RAM, 10.00GB HDD, 10.4 TFT 800x600 LCD, Modem, Ethernet, FDD, Win98
Product support

Product: ThinkPad 240Z 2609-82J [change]

Operating system: All [change]

Original description: PIII 600MHz (128KB) 128MB RAM, 20.00GB HDD, 10.4 TFT 1024x768 LCD, Modem, Ethernet, FDD, Win 2000
Some of the ones that I checked only had a Celeron 500Mhz, but I didn't check them all. Others had a PIII 600MHz.

If I am not mistaken, the 240Z was sold mainly in Japan and so most units include Japanese characters on the keyboard. Some are SVGA and others are XGA, and the latter models are slightly heavier, something like 3.2 lbs (vs. 2.95 lbs). The maximum RAM is either 192MB or 256MB, whereas for TP240 it's 320MB. If you need as much memory as possible, it may actually be better to get the fastest TP240 (400MHz Celeron) so that you can have 320MB of RAM.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

heck ya a 400 celeron would be fast enough. You are talking about the 240 only not the 'X' model, right? I would rather have a little slower CPU and more memory any day.

Yes, I am referring to 240, not 240X or 240Z. We had a discussion about this topic (max memory for these three models) several months ago and you can look up that thread.
