Would you guys buy this T40? It has warranty until 11-2006

I saw this T40 posted for sale on another forum for about $400.00.

Seems like this has some issues but this is what it is:
2373-72U
20 gig hard drive
around 768 mb of ram
new battery
docking station (not sure which one)
cd burner
Dvd player
external keyboard
& laser mouse

The LCD may need a new bulb or sceen because it goes black every once in a while.

I was thinking of offering a little less than the $400.00 he's asking for, have the LCD replaced by IBM and then maybe keep it for my wife. Do you think it's even worth it?

I purchased a similar T40 with warranty until 11/2006 but with a 60GB HD, 1GB Ram and fully functional LCD for $520. And that was almost 4 months ago.

If the warranty is really still valid on it, I would ask the seller to get the screen fixed first, then offer to buy it from him/her.

I'll second that. Now there are some sellers who might have a reason for not wanting to take the time to fix something under warranty (and offer a lower price in return), but I wouldn't take the risk with something like an LCD. Just make sure you offer the seller some assurance that you will buy the laptop if he takes the time to get it fixed to your satisfaction. It wouldn't be right otherwise (in my opinion).

Thanks for all of your replies. I wanna take a look at it first and then figure out what I should offer. My idea was to offer something like $250.00 and hopefully have IBM replace the screen, order a new keyboard and replace whatever else I thought needed replacement.

I'll keep you all posted with what happens.
