Hardware upgrades for T60
Hardware upgrades for T60
Hi all!
I have just skimmed the hardware maintenance manual for the T60/T60p and looked at the illustrations which describe assembly/disassembly. Obviously it is possible to upgrade both ram and hard-drive. But am I correct that it is also possible to upgrade the CPU? I have just ordered a T60 with the T2400 dual core, but I am thinking maybe to upgrade to a T2600 when the time (and price) is right.
Also, I have not been able to find any info on this, but is it possible to upgrade from the ATI X1300 to the X1400 (or maybe even the X1600)? Is this chip mounted on a socket or soldered to the mainboard?
Thanks,
Rick

Merom should fall right in as soon as the T61 is shipped. It should work just like T40-42 and T20-22 - Merom is going to launch with the same chipset as Yonah, so the boards should be identical as well as the BIOSes. Im not saying its 100% certain, but it is very, very likely.

time will tell, but the idea sounds pretty neat. That way, assuming the t60's cooling solution can handle the merom, you could just extend the life of your notebook.donking! wrote:Does this mean that a merom upgrade would be possible? I read that initially the meroms will be issued with the same chip set as the current yonah processors. And I've read that the merom is supposed to be pin for pin compatible with the yonah.
