Problem Installing New Hard Drive

#1 Post by cdc101 » Wed Jul 28, 2004 3:54 am

Got a 40gig HDD from a friend in another state that he pulled out of his T20 but when I installed it, it's not working.

I get the IBM Thinkpad logo like normal with the option to got to BIOS Setup and the Boot from Device options at the bottom (just like normal), but that's it.

About 30 seconds later, I get a double beep with a message at the top saying:

ERROR: 0200. Failure Fixed Disk.

I think my buddy just pulled it out of his T20 without wiping the drive. Is there anyway I can set this up for my T20?. I know it works because, well, he's a friend and he wouldn't scr*w me over. I tried booting directly from my XP Pro disk, but the same thing happened.

That error is a hard drive error. It may have been damaged in the transition. Try booting with a set of XP setup disks (they can see the hard drive), but my guess is the drive is not good. ... JDHurst

I never thought about it being damaged in shipping. I also tried booting from my XP CD Rom...didn't work.

Thanks for the reply.

You could also download the IBM (hitachi?) drive fitness test. You can install it on a floppy and then boot off the floppy. That assumes of course the 40 gig drive is a IBM/Hitachi drive though.
