Ejecting locks up laptop

I attempted to search for anything on this topic but wasn't successful.

I have the 2nd hard drive adapter with Ubuntu 5.10 installed on it. I use to be able to eject the hard drive without a problem.

Starting a couple weeks ago, whenever i attempt to eject the hard drive it completely freezes the laptop. It doesn't crash and reboot, it just stops responding and the keyboard, mouse, etc don't work.

Any ideas?

Update:

It only locks up the laptop whenever I'm ejecting the hard drive in the hard drive adapter but whenever I eject the Matshita drive, it ejects without a problem.

I guess no one has experienced this...
