Eg. which model / brand of LCD, keyboard, DVD drive, etc?

JHEM's method certainly works. Alternatively, you can press the ThinkVantage button (I believe it's called) and choose: Get Help & Support > System information > Warranty & parts.

Somehow the 'Warranty & parts' seems to be missing from System Information. My T43's ThinkVantage has that component though
