Problem with ATI card/driver?

#1 Post by sharkym » Tue Apr 11, 2006 10:03 am

My new T60 (of 4 days) has crashed a few times.....it seems like it's something related to the video card. The first time was when I was playing with the Fn F7 (switching to projector, playing with the resolution). The second time, I was resuming from standby.

When this happens, there is a black screen with funny blue and red lines, and a msg saying: "hardware malfunction, call vendor for support, NMI:parity check/memory parity error, the system has halted". When I try to reboot (can only do it with the power button), the windows loading screen comes up fine, but I get a screen with the funny lines on it again. Then, a blue screen appears with something about "ati...." I couldn't read it in time before it dissappears...at the same time, I see a mouse arrow, I can move it, but the system reboots itself. After a couple rounds of this, windows loads fine.

Anyone have an idea of what's happening? I ran the thinkvantage update program, so all the drivers should be updated. I have the ATI x1400 card. Is there some firmware update that I need?

thanks!

Send it back. Get a new one. Sounds like you got a bad video adapter.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
