T43p and Mini-Dock issues *aargh*

#1 Post by Paby » Tue Apr 11, 2006 10:36 am

Hi all,

I've had my new T43p (2669-Q1G) and a Mini-Dock for a couple of weeks now and it drives me crazy. My previous DELL laptop might have looked crappy with all the plastics but technically it worked outstanding! I was expecting both technical excellence AND good looks from the ThinkPad but unfortunately my experiences are the opposite.

Main issues are with the Mini-Dock.

* There is no second hardware profile ("Docked") created.

* If I click Properties on the default profile the "This is a portable computer" option is greyed out and cannot be altered. I know there is a KB article from Microsoft on this (821161) but according to that the defect is fixed in SP2 and I have SP2 installed.

* EasyEject does not show an option to undock the computer from the Mini-Dock.

* There is no "Undock computer" or "Eject PC" option on the Start Menu.

I've installed Windows and all the drivers and software manually (not using the factory install) so when I opened a case with IBM for this they told me to do a factory-default install from the Recovery CD. Having done that today, all issues are still apparent. IBM's response to that was "oh, what a pity". :x

Any input on what I can do next to solve these issues? Or should I just order a new DELL instead?

Thanks,

I just press the button on the mini dock and pop my T42p right out whenever I want while it is running. It doesn't seem to hurt anything. It automatically goes into the power settings I have set up for battery operation, i.e., the screen dims, etc. No need to use easy eject.

That may be the case but the fact of the matter is that the dock is not working as expected which causes other issues for me, for instance that automatic switching of screen resolution between docked/undocked mode does not work. My point is also that I'm absolutely stunned over the amount of docking issues that people seem to have judging from the many posts on these and other forums and the complete lack of response from IBM to address the issues.
