Need a POWERFUL and EASY TO CONFIGURE router for T60
Need a POWERFUL and EASY TO CONFIGURE router for T60
I gotta tell you, the folks at Lenovo are really dragging
their feet in helping me resolve my wireless issues with
my Linksys router.
To briefly recap what has been posted elsewhere...
Spent $130 for their new WRT54GX4 router which
worked great as far as range in a huge home and
compatability with my 2 wireless laptops.
Just bought a Lenovo T60 laptop, duo-core. These
laptops come with an Intel 3945ABG wireless network
card built-in.
They don't work with the new Linksys routers. Seems
to be dozens of people in my situation that bought new
duo-core laptops and have issues with their Linksys
router.
I am trying to get Lenovo to send me an Atheros card
(40Y7026) to replace the Intel, but the company is dragging
their feet in giving me permission for a replacement.'
Now it looks like I may be forced to ditch my Linksys
router -- something I regret doing because the router has
been working perfectly with all my other devices.
I need to possibly consider other router options. It must be
powerful so that it can send great signal range throughout
my home. It must also be easy to configure. The great thing
about Linksys routers is that it has a webpage that makes it
simple to set up your network.
Of course, your personal experiences with a brand/model
and your T60 always help!
Thanks in advance for the help.

FYI: Every router that I have dealt with (D-Link, Linksys, Belkin(?) and Westell) have all had a "webpage" to configure your network.
I know that that doesn't really help you much, but I just wanted to give you atleast something positive to look forward to. I really hope that they can fix this for you.

I have the had success with the Belkin Pre N router F5D8230-4 at my house for about a year now. It regularly handles 3 wireless laptops simultaneously, with my kids playing on line games with each other and their friends, and me doing work related stuff, including VPN connection etc. I have the T60p, one of my kids has a SONY, and the other an HP, each with whatever wireless card it came with. When I download large files, I still get throughput speeds on mine, even with all the other stuff going on, of 300k - 500K/second.
It self configures using a CD, but as noted elsewhere, you can configure for special needs using a browser.
Costs about $100 or so, depending on where you get it. Something to look at.
