Water damage to LCD screen on a T30

#1 Post by pupkinuster » Wed Apr 12, 2006 3:11 pm

Hello,

I was caught in an horrible rain and it seems water has somehow gotten into the lcd screen. It now has several small spots on the screen.

Now, the question is:

is there any chance I can get rid of those nasty spots?
it has no warranty, and i guess my town has no ibm service center :(

Thanks for your help!

The layers of the LCD are going to continue to work like capillaries in that they will continue to draw the liquid inwards.

If it isn't under warranty, then you have two options:

1. Replace the LCD.

2. NOT RECOMMENDED: Separate the layers of the LCD to remove the water that is building up. This needs to be done in a clean room, which is next to impossible for an average person (or even IBM) to do. Even the slightest bit up dust in the room will be drawn in, causing "specks" all over your screen. Not to mention that you might damage something along the way.

EDIT: P.S. Welcome to the Forum!!

Hello pupkinuster

Not proven by myself , i read this in a German Forum ,
where someone had similar prob + it worked :

3.rd option :
Put some lbs of silica gel in a plastic bag +
your TP up on it .
(maybe you should put something between the silica + the laptop)
Seal the bag for some Days, 14 was recommended, success after some days reported. hth

Thanks for the answers!

I have no cash to spare at the moment and I am not a tech guru :( so I'll have to stick with the third option. Any advice about where can I get this gel?

And I noticed another wierd thing - the spots seem to move down the screen. gravity?

thaks for your help!

Do a Google/Froogle search. I found this one: http://www.veritemp.com/index.asp?cat=155549
