Ragnarok online on the 600X.

#1 Post by DarkJesus » Thu Apr 13, 2006 8:41 pm

Is it possible? I've had problems with installing it before and they all seem to lead to the graphics card. Is there some kind of wrapper I could use? Has anyone managed to play ragnarok online on a 600X?

According to the specifications posted on their website, you need a minimum of 8MB Video RAM with DirectX 3D support to run this game:
http://iro.ragnarokonline.com/download/systemspec.asp

A 600X has only 2.5MB of RAM, and it is only vaguely compliant with most 3D specs.

You might be able to run this game if you used a SelectaDock III docking station with your 600X and installed a compatible graphics card. This would involve purchasing a "SelectaDock III" docking station plus a "SelectaBase 600" to allow you to attach your 600X to it, plus a compatible graphics card.

Just a minor correction but according to the specbook on IBM's site (tbook.pdf) the 600X has 4mb of video RAM but even so, that's still not much. Even so, in some games like Half-Life that were originally designed back in the 90's and early 2000's, that extra 1.5mb over what the 600E has can make a difference.

I've heard of the docking station. I don't think I'd bother with it just to play one game.

So ragnarok would not be possible without it? That's a shame... :(

Thanks for the correction, AlphaKilo470. You're quite right that the 600X has 4MB RAM.

To DarkJesus: You will still only have half of the required video RAM and I'm pretty sure this is why you can't run Ragnarok and/or install it.
