Reformat problems & spyware

#1 Post by bebepooh » Wed Jul 28, 2004 9:55 pm

I just recently bought an IBM x31 machine. I noticed that there was a lot of spyware on it so I decided to do a clean reformat of the whole system through the IBM Access option. However after reformatting the unit, I ran spybot and it kept revealing new spyware. I've done this twice with no luck. Is there a method to do a complete and clean reformat of the system???

Thanks in advance

doing a complete format should have cleaned everything. You're probably getting infected just by plugging your computer to the internet. Maybe you should try to get a CD with all of the windows updates/spybot/adaware/AV, then do another format, and install all the stuff from the CD before even pluggin in the ethernet cable. If you got spyware/viri without even plugging into the internet, then you got me stumped.

You could have spyware in a different partition... Check for partitions!

However, the likehood is that some windows components or other programs that you're installing may have files that the software thinks of it as spyware. Can you tells us which files did the software found as spyware?

Finally, if you're using no-so-legal software in the installation, well, this may indeed has spyware within...
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)
