Buy T60 from Lenovo or BestBuy?

#1 Post by Simba » Sat Apr 15, 2006 10:10 am

Hi all,

This is my first post.:) I have been reading each and every thread on this forum for quite sometime now. Thanks for the great forum, Bill.

My question is, now that BestBuy is also stocking ThinkPads, would it be wise enough to buy T60 from them for ~$50 cheaper? Or should I buy it direct from Lenovo?

I hear that when we purchase it direct from Lenovo, we can return the product within 30 days and get a full refund. Does this still apply if I get it from BestBuy?

Also, it seems that the T60 has some issues like a squeaky palmrest, uneven hinges, wifi turns off by itself etc... Don't you think it would be a good idea if we can make a sticky thread with the list of "known" issues with T60 so that new buyers can quickly cross check their systems against that list... ? just a thought..

Looking for your comments. TIA.

There are (quite) a few threads that cover these issues, both individually and amalgamated. Just look around a bit and you should be able to spot them.
Happily picks up his three grand; unhappily hands it over to another company.

Simba,

Personally, for a $50 price difference, I would
buy directly from Lenovo.

They have a 30-day money-back, no-questions-asked
policy and that is worth the effort alone. I have already
had them ship me a second T60 within my first week of
ownership with absolutely no hassle.

As for the Wi-Fi issue, I think it's only going to be an
issue if you have a Linksys router -- though I am sure
you'll hear other arguments for and against that. If
you do have a Wi-Fi issue at least you can be secure
in knowing that you can return your laptop.

Best Buy? Not sure of their policy, but I bet the return
policy is probably 14 days and perhaps a restocking fee
added in for computer returns.

I understand that Bill Morrow has some T60p units (200794u) about to arrive. It might pay to see if he has one. I do not like to buy stuff like this from Circuit City, Best Buy and CompU$A.

Sorry to ask, but anyone know how can I reach Bill? He is an authorized IBM dealer, right? :) Will he offer us thinkpaders a discount? 8)
