What external display's are suitable for R52?

Have formac 17 - my main apple G4 - it is ACD-DVI but the box also refers to a VGA connecter.
Is it suitable or will it damage the laptop?

Also what cable do I need to connect it - an ordinary USB ?

Any help appreciated
