x40 shuts off in the middle of the night.

when i wake up my computer obviously restarted. it's a completely fresh install of xp. is this something common?

Perhaps it's just coming out of hibernation? When the computer comes back from hibernation it looks like it's completely restarted except at a certain point it states "resuming windows."

I had a laptop that did something like that once. Turns out the fan was getting stuck, the cpu (or another component) was overheating and the system shut itself down. On reboot, the power surge got the fan kicking again. After replacing the fan, the problem went away. Not saying this is your problem, but it may be worth checking your fan.

Hmmm sometimes I wake up and my x41 is powered off completely.

I usually attribute it to me forgetting that I turned it off the night before but now I'm having second thoughts....
