Upgrading lcd display on a 2686DHU from XGA to SXGA+

#1 Post by Ricoh » Mon Apr 17, 2006 4:30 pm

Hello,
I cracked the XGA display on my 2686DHU, so I purchased a SXGA+ lcd, but I get no image. Do I need to replace the inverter and/or the data cable to make the upgrade complete? Thanks.

You where supposed to replace your cable with this one:

SXGA cable is 91P6787
X32/2.0GHZ/2GB/ENGENIUS EMP-8602+S 600mw mini pci/WD 250GB
X60/1.83GHZ/2GB/Atheros/7K100

Yup, XGA cable is single channel LVDS and SXGA+/UXGA is dual channel LVDS.

You can keep your current inverter though.

Thank you both very much for your help. Any idea where I can buy one.

PS. I have a 15" display, do I need a 91P6787 or 91P6857? Is the inverter the same for a 15" SXGA+ also?

oh, in that case you need a different PN, the cables are differnet lengths. Look in the T40-2 HMM for the PN you need, cmarti and I have the 14" model.

you can order them direct from IBM.

http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... logId=-840

I had the HMM open for other reasons so I looked up the PN for that cable: 91P6857

I purchased the display from ezsystemsdotcom it was much less than the price from IBM. The brand is ID Tech. They don't have any technical support, hence, my question to this forum about compatibility, part numbers, etc.

I received the data cable the other day and I am happy to say the install was a success. :D There sure are a lot of screws to remove to get at that data cable connector. I was very challenging work, but I'm very happy with new display. I am running it at 1280x1024 and the highest res. I could only run the XGA at 1024x768 because the text was not very legible at a higher res.

One thing I did like more on the XGA display was the brightness. I’m not sure if it's a difference in the manufacturer or maybe I'm just getting use to the external display I have been using for the past week waiting for the parts to arrive. The XGA was made by LG and the SXGA I have now is an ID Tech. Any way, I am thrilled to have it all back together again.

Thanks very much for all your help.

Cheers.

Yes, it's max'd out. But, like I said, I have been using a super bright 17" Dell flat panel display that is very bright. I'll get use to it again.

just an FYI: you shouldnt run 1280x1024 on a 4:3 display, 1280x1024 is the only standard 5:4 reso and should look a bit distorted on a 4:3 1400x1050 screen.

Reason you couldnt go any higher on a XGA screen is that the max res is 1024x768, there are only that many pixels on the screen...

Your right 1400x1050 is better. I didn't try that res. because I thought the print would be to small, but it is actually easier on the eyes. Thank you...Again!
