Anyone else have a TMD 14.1" SXGA+ panel?
Anyone else have a TMD 14.1" SXGA+ panel?
My 2623D6U is due to arrive this week with a TMD panel, and I'm wondering what to expect.
According to the TMD web site, the spec's are good (200 nit brightness rather than 150 on Hydis and Samsung panels).

Edit: My D6U has arrived and I'm not impressed with the TMD... see post below

Is the panel you're describing the same as the IPS flexview? Are they shipping those out now? I know there was a thread about that earlier debating whether or not 14.1 models came with a better panel? If so, I can still return my 2623D7U and purchase the SVGA + model. I'm assuming you have confirmed with your serial number after the item shipped out?
No, the panel I'm referring to is NOT an IPS FlexView panel. I read that thread awhile back but it was just a typo. There is no manufacturer currently making a 14.1" SXGA+ IPS panel.myrighteye wrote:Is the panel you're describing the same as the IPS flexview? Are they shipping those out now? Lenovo uses 14.1" SXGA+ LCD panels from three different manufacturers: BOE Hydis, Samsung, and TMD, which stands for Toshiba M a t s u s h i t a Display Technology Co., Ltd.
there is no such thing as an SVGA + panel. I think you meant to say SXGA+myrighteye wrote:If so, I can still return my 2623D7U and purchase the SVGA + model.
I did a parts lookup using the serial number on the invoice:zzyss wrote:How do you know what brand panel you're getting?

Wow... cool link. Thanks! (Although the funny thing is that almost the entire list is wrong now, since virtually everything has either been upgraded, or replaced under warranty).hoya wrote:I did a parts lookup using the serial number on the invoice:zzyss wrote:How do you know what brand panel you're getting?

T60p (200784U) - standard (no upgrades... yet)
in terms of brightness, the Hydis is rated at 150 and the TMD at 200, but I would say that if Samsung is 150, Hydis would be 165 and TMD would be 175. that's just my best estimate given my memory of the Hydis panels.RaysMD wrote:so, the samsung > Hydis > TMD?
the viewing angles on the TMD seem worse than either Samsung or Hydis, even though I didn't think that was possible! it's not a deal-breaker for me since I rarely give presentations (usually just a photo slide show for a few friends).
overall, the 14.1" SXGA+ panels are similar enough that I don't think people would really notice any difference unless you sat the two side-by-side and looked for variations.
the first 3 shots show the T60 w/ TMD on the left and a T43 w/ a Samsung on the right:

actually, both the Hydis and TMD panels are rated at exactly 5.2W for power consumption. Samsung doesn't have a number on their site but I assume it would be close to that amount.donking! wrote:I believe the TMD is supposed to draw less power than other panels. Not absolutely sure this is correct or how much the difference is (if it is correct). But that may be another factor to consider, other than appearance characteristics of the different LCD panels.
TMD: LTD141EM1S or LTD141EM4S - 5.2W
BOE Hydis: HT14P12 - 5.2W
Samsung: LTN141P4 - ?
