Just wondering if its possible to boot from a USB memory stick or a flash based memory card connected through a PCMCIA adapter?

I am pretty sure it supports booting from the USB, as does my T43 and, I have found out, older T and X Series Thinkpads. As long as you put some form of media in there before the Thinkpad is turned out, it should boot fine. For example, put in a bootable USB stick before you start it up, then hit F12 on startup...You should see a USB Mass Storage Device there to boot from.

HTH :)

It will boot from an usb memory drive as long as you have the usb legacy support enabled in the bios. I don't think you can with a flash memory card in a pcmcia adapter.

I had problems when I wanted to boot from a cd using a pcmcia interfaced external cd drive, but you needed some drivers to run the pcmcia in the first place.

That sucks. My problem with USB is I hate having the USB drive sticking out, it always is in danger of getting bended when bumping into things. I wonder if there is a small USB stick that can connect, but then fold at a joint so it lines up with the length of the side of the Thinkpad, to avoid being broken off?
