Sending my T30 in for a system board replacement

#1 Post by kjarrett » Thu Jul 29, 2004 7:50 pm

Well, here we go.

I decided to send the T30 in for a new system board to address the problem I'm having with power loss in hibernation mode.

Hopefully this will fix the problem ... and not cause new ones!

Well it's on it's way ... I forgot to leave a stickynote inside asking for a new LCD (it has one stuck pixel) .... doubt it would have mattered ... but it would have been pretty cool if it came back with a new mobo AND a new LCD ... LOL

EasyServ ROCKS!

Well the system is back in my hands and is working fine, I will need to test it tonight into tomorrow and see if system board replacement fixed the battery drain problem in hibernation. Here's hoping...but if it doesn't fix the problem it's certainly not IBM's fault.

VERY positive EasyServ experience, I must say. The shipping box arrived as promised on Friday, I put the Thinkpad into it while the driver waited and gave it to him to start its trip to the service facility. As I hoped, it arrived Saturday, was fixed Monday, and I recieved it back on Tuesday. Gotta love IBM service!

Stay tooned,

I'm having the same problem, power loss during hibernation or shut down. Please let me know if they fixed yours, I'm very eager to know if I should send mine in.

Well that was a collossal waste of time and effort...

The power loss problem is still there - the new system board made absolutely no difference.

My T30 lost 1.33 Wh (3.6% of the battery's capacity) in hibernation for less than 24 hours. This is an identical power loss from my last test. My T21 never lost any power whatsoever when hibernating. Hibernating was the same as powering down.

Not sure what to do about this at this point. Right now my biggest concern is that my batteries will cycle more than necessary, causing premature loss of capacity. I guess I could ask for a battery, but, how many might I use up?

The alternative is to shut down every night. Costs me some bootup speed, but my battery is unaffected.

Thoughts? What would you do?
