IBM Thinkpad 600X System Board Problem

#1 Post by 88888888 » Thu Jul 29, 2004 9:44 pm

My TP 600X does not power on any more. :( I do not know what caused that. When the power-on button is pushed, battery and stand-by lights flash once, some noise like "zzzzzzzzz" can be heard, then the z light (a circled z, the 5th light on key board) keeps on. Nothing happened after that. Does my system board go wrong? If I need buy one from Ebay, which one I should get? The IBM web site says 600X system board is FRU 10L1353. I do not understand why the ebay item says FRU 30L2990 REPLACEMENT NUMBER 12P3224? Other ebay item says it is FRU 30L2993, I even can not find these FRU numbers on IBM web site. Which one I should use? My thinkpad is 2645-JJ4. Thanks!

I cannot help you with the FRU numbers, can can confirm the mobo is prolly dead. That is what mine did when it baught the farm. I found a board on ebay with the correct numbers, perhaps i was lucky. Anyway the replacement was easy although time consuming to make sure everything went back perfectly. The system continues to run perfectly now.

Quick question here, have you ruled out the BIOS battery. My T22 showed similar symptoms when it's BIOS battery got weak. I replaced that and all was well. Make sure you check that.

You may also want to reseat every item you can get to, like ram, modem, batteries etc. Maybe even remove the DVD/CD, batteries and the like and try to boot strictly from the power cord....try all the variations on booting.

Perhaps you can email one of the sellers and find out about exchanges in case the board is not the same. Also, if the system seems to be dead, you can start disassembly and have the board all by itself to verify the replacement board....

Good luck.
