I've got an IBM X40, fantastic machine, however, I've run into a little problem. It comes with 512Mb as standard, but I've since put in a 1GB Ram module (Kingston KVR333SO/1GR) to bump up the total amount of ram to 1.5GB. Now this helps the machine enormously and I put the ram module in maybe about 1 year ago now.
Since the that time, I've had to replace that 1GB ram module 4 times! The latest time is today as I noticed that I was getting a lot of CRC errors while trying to unzip some large archives and the CRC errors were coming in randomly all over the place. A quick Memtest86+ run confirmed my suspicions. (Errors all coming in the 1000MB+ range)
I'm sure that it's just the paranoia kicking in, but this is now the 4th time that the RAM module has crapped out... and this isn't el cheapo ram we are talking about here, it's Kingston RAM (albeit value brand) and I've always run a memtest check on the ram whenever i've replaced it (for at least 12 hours) and it passes fine. A few months down the line, it just craps out with no explanation. I don't abuse my machine at all, but I have to say that I do leave it on almost 24/7.
I've been involved with computers for a long time and the frequency that the RAM is failing with just doesn't happen like this in my experience. I'm starting to think that something is up with the motherboard itself. However, as far as I know, the Kingston module i'm using isn't covered by IBM under their recommended list, so they would most likely say that it's just dodgy ram.
In the meantime, I just get Kingston to RMA the RAM as they cover it with their lifetime warranty... but this is happening far too much for my liking. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
TIA
A strange coincidence or...?

Yea I would suspect there is something wrong with the memory slot. Its a good thing you got Kingston, otherwise you'd be screwed without their lifetime warranty.
The chances of 4 sticks of kingston ram (even valueram) all crapping out is infintisemal (sp?)
