#1 Post by chanbru » Fri Apr 21, 2006 12:22 am

Hi. I have a X21 and a X23 that play no sound. I recently installed Win XP on them and the drives seemed ok and with no conflict. I also downloaded the drives from IBM, but still they wont work. I had this kind of problem before but I dont remember how I solved it.

can anybody gimme a light?

I have the same type of problem with my X21. No sound with a clean Win2k install.

I once bought an X20 from eBay and installed Windows 2000 on it. The device manager showed that the sound drivers were all installed properly, but I couldn't hear anything and so I panicked! Later, I realized that the former user had muted the speakers! So, see if that's also your problem by pressing the speaker control keys (should have blue symbols because these are Fn keys).

Hi there!!!!

thanks for the advice. I did what you wrote here and it worked.

The problem was that after I reinstalled WIN XP and the IBM softerware installer. the sound volume in the thinkpad buttoms for sound were set as very low. Even though I put the volume bar in the high end, it did not work. But after I increased the volume in the keyboard, it worked fine.

again, thank you!

X20 no sound

#5 Post by JohnK » Sun Oct 22, 2006 8:59 am

I have a similiar problem with my X20. 2662-39U. No sound. My X20 does not have blue function keys for volume but it does have volume up-down-mute buttons to the right of the ESC key.
I have used recovery CD's purchased on ebay from Australia, everything loads fine and sound drivers installed. Device manager says that device cannot start, code 10.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
BTW, this is my first Thinkpad and i think it is a great little machine.
