Cruzer Titantium (Thumb Drive) on T23 (USB 2.0 problem?)

#1 Post by ShipUPride » Fri Apr 21, 2006 7:23 am

Greetings,

Just got a slightly used T23, rebuilt it with Windows XP SP2 and all windows updates. Thing runs great, except when I connect my Cruzer Titanium Thumb Drive to it, there is a hardware error, and the drive is not recognized.

Cruzer says that the drivers ship with Windows 2000 and XP and only offer 98 Drivers but they won't install on XP.

The device is detected, but incorrectly. I am assuming this is possibly due to the fact that the T23 is USB 1.1 and the Thumb Drive is 2.0

Are there any USB drivers for the T23?

I am using a 512MB Cruzer Ti on my T23 without problems. It also worked on my T22 OK (both with XP Pro, SP2). Nothing additional was needed.

Have you tried the drive in each USB port? Do other USB devices work OK? Borrow someone's flash drive and try that.

All I can think of to try at this point is to go into device manager in safe mode, remove all the USB devices and let XP reinstall them on reboot.

I have been using a 1gig Cruzer Ti between a T41, T22 and a T23 and have no problems. The only thing with the T22 and T23 is it complains about "this device will work better in a USB 2.0 port"...

You should try reloading the drivers, go to the Device Manager to see what is there and use right button and pick reinstall driver.

Reload what drivers? For the USB Root Hub? They are the default Windows XP drivers, and to this point, I have not seen any others that I can install to replace the default windows drivers.

If you know of some, please let me know!

Sorry, missed this post... Yes, all other USB devices work, and yes, I have tried this on 2 diff ports. Also, my USB drive works on 2 other PC's, so I don't believe that is the problem.

USB ports on T23

#6 Post by schen » Fri Apr 21, 2006 12:24 pm

Have you tried something else "know good" in the USB ports? Maybe another flash drive. I've seen post from people saying that their USB ports are out and one of the 2 on the back of my T23 says the same thing yours does when something is plugged into it. Luckily, the other one works still. It's possible that both of your ports are bad.
