8-Cell Battery covers fan intake?
I've got the 8-cell battery, and I've noticed that part of the facade (extra plastic that does not contain batteries) covers a small vent on the bottom of the laptop. This is right under the fan exhaust. Does anyone with the 4-cell extended or slim-line battery notice the same problem? Does anyone have thoughts as to whether this will make the laptop run hotter? I ask because this part of the battery facade looks removable by a small screw in the battery. Removing it would make the laptop lopsided, so I doubt I'd do this. However, I may purchase the slim-line battery to use when I'm primarily on AC power (this is also the time I expect heat to be the biggest issue).

i see what you mean but i don't know if it will has any ill effects on the computer since most of the air are blow out from the side. the slim 4 cell battery will not block those vents. more and more, i think that the standard 4 cell and the 8 cell battery are designed for the x60 and the slim 4 cell battery are designed for the x60s. and they just kind of hack it so that the standard 4 cell and the 8 cell will fit the x60s as well. I much prefer the look and design of the 8 cell battery on my x40.

This is for X60s or X61s units only.
I've noticed this with the 8 cell battery too. The spacer plate on the 8 cell battery covers what looks to be intake slots for the cooling fan (slots are on the bottom of the case in the corner where the cooling exhaust is).
If a 4 cell prismatic 'slim' were in the unit, these slots would be wide open/exposed. The 4 cell cylindrical 'enhanced' also covers them from what I've read.
There are 16 of these tiny slats on my unit (2 rows of 8 slots).

In step 5, the battery moving into position is about to cover the 16 slots. Step 6 shows them completely covered.
Seriously thinking about taking the Dremel to this spacer plate to add some cooling holes..homebrew elegance..
