Battery and AC Adapter Compatibility?

#1 Post by davekazmdrummer » Fri Apr 21, 2006 10:33 am

Ok so I have the IBM LI-ION Battery (02k7028) that came with my laptop (bought it off ebay) it charges at 10.8V

I have an issue that the battery will not be charged by the laptop.

My AC Adapter (02K6753) and Laptop(t23) both say 16v -- 4.5a

Could incompatibility between the battery and the AC adapter account for why it's not charging? None of the pins are bent. The bios and embedded host controller are old versions and I can't update them because the battery is dead.

Thanks guys.

I've dropped you a PM Dave. This could be due to a fault that your T23 has developed, I've seen it on 2 machines and heard of a few others. It seems due to a motherboard fault they stop charging the battery, a capacitor issue I believe.

If you have another battery to test with that'd be the first step. Also, if you have the IBM battery maximiser utility installed check if there is any wattage being pushed through to the battery.

Let me know if this helps.

The maximiser utility says 10.8V

I don't have another battery to test it with, but my system won't charge the battery at all.

I may be interested in purchasing one of your chargers, will it charge the model battery that I listed above? If anything it will allow me to fill the battery so I can upgrade the bios and controller in hopes that the system will then charge my batteries...if not its the next best thing.

How do I go about paying ya.

You have the 72 watt adapter. It doesn't really matter if you have more wattage avalible. The other model IBM has is a 56watt one. And if your problem was not charging with the 56 its because you dont have enough power. But your 72 should provide more than enough juice.
