How old is the drive? What about seek noises?

All the drives are 12-18 months old (the age of the laptops they were in). Seek noises are minimal (but I am used to the seek noise of a 7200RPM drive, so take that for what it is worth).

Hi Brent. Just for future reference if one of these is still available in a few weeks (since an upgrade's not a main priority as yet but could be after I've paid for extended warranty on my T40), how much extra would you charge for shipping to Sydney, Australia? :) TIA.

The additional shipping would be about $5 US.

I am kinda interested but can you let me hear what kind of sound it makes when it's on?

Sorry, but I don't have a mic to record the sound.

It is very quiet, almost as quiet as a 4200RPM drive. Once inside a casing, I seriously doubt it could be heard except when seeking (which is also quiet).

If it helps, the 80GB 5400rpm drive that I bought from brent was virtually quiet as well. I was worried that the faster drive would be too loud, but I was quite impressed. I can hear no real audible difference between my 80GB 5400rpm drive and my 60GB 4200rpm drive. Infact, if I had to choose, the 80GB might be quieter, but that could also be because the seek time is less than the 60gb.

Both the 5k80 and 5k100 series drives use Fluid Dynamic Bearings. They are WHISPER quiet because of this.

Here is a review that has this drive in it:
http://www.silentpcreview.com/article207-page2.html

Shows idle and seek noise of 19/20 dBA measured from 3".

EDIT: the FDBs also significantly reduce heat production in these drives.

Sheesh. Just buy it. If it's too noisy for you Brent will refund your money.
