Noisy palmrest on Z60m

#1 Post by wayrad » Sat Apr 22, 2006 9:03 am

The left palmrest on my new Z60m emits an annoyingly loud clicking noise when pressed in the area above the wireless switch. It happens a lot during normal use, since that's where my left hand rests. The palmrest flexes visibly there, too. Do all Z60m's do this, or is mine just poorly assembled? Can I fix it myself (hopefully without taking the thing apart)? I always thought Thinkpads were supposed to be solidly built, and this is kind of a disappointment. Any advice will be appreciated!

I finally got fed up enough to file a support request, and was amazed to get a phone call within TEN MINUTES, giving me the address of a nearby service center where I can get my palmrest adjusted under warranty. So I'm a happy camper now. :D

Now I wish I had just lived with it. The authorized service fixed the noise the same day, true. But now I'm looking at a week without my computer while they attempt to fix the 4" scratch they put in the titanium lid...

Apparently not. At least they fixed it. And they finally got the palmrest right again (heaves sigh of relief).

I don't believe it. The first time I tried to use the wireless switch after getting it home, I found it no longer works. It just flops back and forth and won't turn the wireless on. Think I should open a new support ticket and ask for someplace different? Darn, and the optical drive now emits a fanlike noise and makes the whole computer vibrate, which I really don't remember it doing before.
