How much does it cost to extend the warranty?
The warranty on my T40 ends in July 2006, so I was thinking of extending. Does anyone know the cost of extending the warranty by either one or two years in Australia?

When I called them in Canada, it was about $100/year.Coathanger wrote:The warranty on my T40 ends in July 2006, so I was thinking of extending. Does anyone know the cost of extending the warranty by either one or two years in Australia?
This is the page for warranty upgrades. If your T40 came with the 3 year warranty, then you should be looking at Category 2. It will cost you $350 to extend to years 4 and 5.
Category 1 is for machines with 1 year warranty, and the rest is for out of warranty.

T60p (200784U) - standard (no upgrades... yet)
Whoa! That's new!zzyss wrote:This is the page for warranty upgrades.
You used to have to call from Oz and NZ, excellent find zzyss.

Hehe...same here. I find myself at the moment looking through all the threads seeing the possible upgrades but telling myself that I have to wait. It's too hard!!!
It's a case of whether I need it as opposed to whether I can wait until I get to the point where I absolutely have to upgrade the HDD. After all, an 80GB drive = a few $$ less than halfway towards that warranty extension...but the magic date's 2 July so I still have a fair while.

I've already splurged on a new 9-cell battery and an extra 512MB RAM, taking my total aquisition costs to about A$875 for a T40 2373-PM1.KristianJ wrote:Hehe...same here. Can't affording to add anything else at present, but keeping my eye out for a bigger HDD too. The Warranty Extension is No. 1 for now.
That's quite good value! What were the original specs on your machine? I got mine for $1049, but that included carry case and an external FDD (which might find its way onto eBay because I'll never use it) and the specs are as in my sig (except it was originally 512MB RAM)Coathanger wrote:

Clouds on your LCD?Coathanger wrote:Given the number of issues/problems that users report on these forums, the warranty is critical. The clouds on my LCD need to be replaced, do you think the warranty covers it?
I called in IBM last week to fix my dead mobo. They had my replacement in 2 HOURS in my hands, and next day the tech came.
LOL I like how the page says "Add to Trolley" instead of "Add to Cart".
I guess you could give it a try and call Lenovo to see whether it is. I'd only be guessing whether it is or not, but something like that IMO should be covered.Coathanger wrote:Given the number of issues/problems that users report on these forums, the warranty is critical. In my part of the world, the English language usage to describe the 4 wheeled things you push around a supermarket is "shopping trolley".simms wrote:LOL I like how the page says "Add to Trolley" instead of "Add to Cart".
A "shopping cart" is a two wheeled device that used to be popular years ago, in the days of corner stores, but is relatively rarely seen now a days.
Cheers,

The seller lists intermittently, with Buy It Now listings of about 10 batteries each time. Just keep an eye out as it's a very good deal for an OEM part.
I was tempted to buy one from the sellers based in Sydney but didn't want to risk getting a non-IBM model given their often inferior performance and poorer lifespan.

While my T40 is not so sleek with the 9-cell battery, I must say it has a corporate ruggedness to it. Definitely hold off for the moment and wait for the guy to list again.
The battery manual states that I get a one year warranty. Do I just quote the battery serial number to get service or is there another proceedure?

I can only go with the info here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46435
Plus add the "ask Lenovo" tag...
But I'd guess serial number would be enough.

That is actually the old battery, apparently it was discontinued in 2005. The new battery is the 7.2 Amp/Hr model shown here:
http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... Id=8799128
Apparently, it's a carry-in exchange so I guess that's what we gotta do

The seller pc-parts-gallery has listed more T4x 9-cell batteries (eBay auction number: 6875739160) here: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-ThinkPad-T40 ... dZViewItem
There are 7 for sale via Buy It Now. Experience tells me that they go pretty quick.
