#1 Post by A31P » Sun Apr 23, 2006 8:48 pm

It works OK on the battery.
Onece I connect AC it shuts off immidiatelly .
Could someone tell me what could be the problem ?
Do I need new motherboard ?
Is it common problem for Thingpads ?
Is there test for this problem using PC Doctor ?

I have an A31 with the exact same problem. I posted a while back and never received a reply. Hopefully, someone else/new can help.

I can charge my battery in another A30 that I have and keep using the A31, but it gets old...

Interesting issues. I have noticed that when I accidently kick my power supply my laptop will reboot (instantly). Perhaps you should try a different power supply first.

There are a few issues with loose power connectors on the motherboard - you might have a cracked solder joint near the connector. Most laptop shops can fix this for you.

I took it apart and found no loose .
I heard that there are microchips which could go bad, but I am not sure.
Is it possible to find blueprint for this board ?
What software could be used to troubleshoot moterboard /power issues?

The software the IBM was using/loading is called PC Doctor for windows v1.06.007 to test motherboards. There is no test in PC Doctor for this. I would suggest a new motherboard.

There is a document called the "IBM Mobile Systems Thinkpad Computer Hardware Maintenance Manual - A30-a31p" - however it does not give a schematic of the system board - rather the steps to diagnose and replace the FRUs.

You can download from the IBM site the HMM. or PM me your email and I'll send you a copy.
