Choppy DVD PLAYBACK ON 2623D6U ANYBODY HAVE THIS ISSUE?

Sent back my D6U as choppy dvd playback issue could not be resolved, especially on battery power. I have seen some apparent correction issues on the posts. How many have experienced this issue.

D6U owners please reply with your comments and general comments on your unit.

I don't have a 2623D6U but my 200768U seems to have problems with DVD playback as well. Every once in a while when watching a movie it will freeze or skip just for a second. I have not tried to troubleshoot the problem yet because I rarely play movies on my T60.

I have a 2623D6U and 2623D7U. Both have the panasonic drive and I don't have choppy playback problems on both.

I'll have to try removing the "ATI HotKey poller" service and see if that fixes the problem.
I should mention that I have never had a problem with DVD playback when running on AC power. The problem only occurs when on battery power.

Ah Ha! Launch Battery Maximizer Wizard and set up a profile for battery that uses Adaptive or Maximum CPU speed when on battery power. It's also possible that POWERPLAY is an issue. Right-click on a open area of the desktop, choose Properties > Settings > Advanced > POWERPLAY, and try running it disabled.

The answer was the Hotkey Poller in the startup . Thanks to another user post, I got the thing to work. How come we have to deal with this stupid stuff with an overpriced Lenovo?

The ONLY reason I got it is I get the employee discount which saves 400. Got the 2623 D6U for $1199

Otherwise I would be tapping on a Sony right about now

And you call *IBM/Lenovo* overpriced?

Tried out no less than 6 Vaios in my time and, I assure you, that their keyboards and touchpad are horrendous in comparision to a Thinkpad. One also had a load of non-standard parts and you had to take out 2/3 of the bottom to access the HDD.

I have used IBM for years. I sold my perfectly fine T40 for new horizons of performance with Think Pad future. I orgere da Z60m, great screen, terrible networking, crashed, bib and fat... sent back. Next... T60 w/ 15' XGA dark bottom corners of sreen, real bad, and bad screen altogether... back to Lenovo... next... 2623D6U, good screen, good networking, good form factor size, etc, but dvd's all skip, tech support knows nothing, sends me new multi burner, ( cough cough), update everything, restore to factory load, same, only after I sent it back did I fond out about the files that needed to be removed that would fix the dvd problem. Why doesn't Lenovo know about this??? Some guy on a forum does???

I finally get the replacement, the screen on this one I will keep only because I am sick of sending computers back, but it has barely recognozable dark corners on bottom and is a tad less bright than the last one, probably a different mfg.

Throughout this frustratin process, I for the first time since I can remember started considering othet brands. I know Sony is overpriced too, but for the same price as the unit I have you can get a GREAT 15.4 display, 1.66 Core Duo, 1Gb, 100 GB 7200, DVD dual layer, updated look, style, no track point which is the main draw for me at this stage.


It's just too bad that we are slowly losing the IBM "legendary quality we once enjoyed. Inconsistency and a lack of quality control are unfortunately now a mark on Lenovo.

I have another theory after having this problem. I noticed the rtvscan.exe (Norton realtime scanner) draws a good amount of system juice when running. - just a thought, it may coinside with the dvd skipping. Do you have symantec AV corporate?

The ATI Hotkey Poller deletion solved the problem thanks. Lot's of stuff draws power but teher should be in the Think Pad enough juice to run a dvd. It is a software glitch that IBM/Lenovo is sadly unaware of

I also dump Norton of EVERY computer because of the firewall issues and slowdowns. Norton is a Hog and beyond. Stick with Netscape and it's built in securoty, run Adaware daily with Ad Watch, or the New Int Explorer Beta is happenig with new security even.

Yep. This fixed the problem for me as well. For reference, here's what I did...

Run msconfig from the command line and select the Services tab. Uncheck the ATI Hotkey Poller, click ok and reboot.
You will get a warning after you reboot that says your startup has been modified. Click the checkbox to prevent getting this warning in the future.
If you need ATI Hotkey Poller later you can always run msconfig again and re-check the box and reboot.

I'll try this because I also have trouble with DVD playback on my T60p 2623 DDU. Has not been an issue because I don't use it to play DVDs, but maybe the kids will when on vacation etc. so I tested it. Every minute or so I get a skip.

I wouldn't worry too much about the hot key poller program. In the ATI control panel you can setup hotkeys that controls different display settings (I forget which ones). If you don't use that function then you can stop the program.

I personally don't use the ATI Hotkey function at all and you don't either if you are asking this question. It basically allows you to quickly change display properties such as resolution, color depth, etc with one key rather than using display properties/settings. It's a shortcut that allows you to program hotkeys.

I have problem of the audio skipping. Video seems to streaming fine

This happens while on battery and AC

Tried deleting the ATI hotkey process and that doesnt work.

Does anything have the same problem as me?

I had the same problem. Stopping the Hotkey poller service had no effect for me.

I was able to solve the problem by playing DVDs with VLC player.

Basically, the included DVD program (whatever it was) would freeze every minute or two, and to start it again I would have to hit play/pause.

VLC player does not do that at all. So I've just been using that.
