new information about secure chip in bios, maybe

#1 Post by diebor » Mon Apr 24, 2006 3:36 pm

thx for your comment.

i have search 1 hour and found on ibm.com a bios emulator.

here is the link, for examples t22:

w³-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-42688

in the config--> IBM Security Chip, you can put enable/disable the tcpa

the bios emulator emulate other thinkpads, too.

i think, i buy a thinkpad t22 or t23 and disable the security chip.

which display is better:
Display: 14,1"XGA TFT (1024x768) or
Display: 14,1"SXGA+ TFT Display (1400x1050)

have all IBM T2x series a special chassis, (titan or other hightech material) ?

thanks

14,1"SXGA+ is obviously better.
Crams more pixles in the same area, thus looks sharper.

So you want to get into the bios then disable the security chip and use it like that instead of just going for a working unsecured version of the laptop?

I don't think you can really avoid that security chip though... its a physical chip next to the ram slot in the T20...

Last fall I bought a T22 systemboard with unknown password set. It will cost around 99 dollars to get the chips cleared.

Well, it makes a nice paperweight anyway.

cant you replace the security chip?

8 pins of surface mount soldering.

have a T20 mobo with corrupted bios and 99% sure it doesn't have a password encoded on the chip ;)

im fairly certain that once the security chip is installed, it is tied to the board and without it, the board will not function

I know this is the case on teh T4x series at least... You cant swap secure chips after one has already been installed.

awdark, I went to that ebay seller's website, he normally sells T2x security chips @ 99.50 and charges 149.00 to remove/reset a pw.

My T22 systemboard is going to remain a 39.00 paperweight

eh my point is, dead boards like the one I have (0175 bios crc1 error) is fairly worthless. But with some good soldering could probably revive it.

there are some new methods to inexpensively remove passwords and eeprom crc1 repairs.
even $20 on ebay for the service now.

really? hmm neat.

Well either way I gave up on my board. If anyone wants it, I do have it posted in the marketplace $5 shipping + $10 to inspire me to go out to the post office
