Video playback problem

#1 Post by anlaz » Mon Apr 24, 2006 6:55 pm

This error did not happen previously. I have the ATI Mobility Fire GL T2 with 128MB and full hardware acceleration enabled on T41p. Previously playing video and browsing internet pages or running other apps such as zipping/unzipping do not affect the video playback (avi, rmvb, etc). However recently it started to affect the video playback. The video/audio is delayed now everytime when these apps are activated. Basically frames and audio froze for few seconds, as if it skipped frames in every few seconds when these apps are processing.

Any advice on what could have caused such change? Could this just be a software setting issue? Or possible CPU or memory problem? The graphic controller had been replaced, brand new and tested. Memory and CPU were tested with PC Doctor, and no problem found. Hard Drive was defragmented. Anyone who can help? Thanks ahead.

I'm very sure that's a software issue.

Make sure your IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > Primary IDE channel and Secondary IDE channel in Windows Device Manager are using DMA and not PIO mode.

I checked. It's DMA alright. I never made any changes before or after this problem.

For suggestion of possible software issue, I had the same suspicion in the beginning. However I begin to think that there's a collision happened in the hardware (either memory or CPU). So I used a classic media player to playback the video, and had it stay always on top of all applications. When I have a php editor move behind it, the video delayed problem occured as I moved, then went away as I stopped moving.

Any other suggestion?

Use Process Explorer from sysinternals and try to change the process priority - highest for your movie player, lowest for the other task. Maybe it will help.
