Another wannabee thinkpad user
I am a new member from The Netherlands, but have been lurking for some time: the problem is the more you read the more confused and uncertain one gets. I plan to buy two T60's on a student discount programme, so the choice is limited as is my budget. Choosing a screen gives me most headaches, but, portebility is not my main concern.
My options aree:
14.1inches : 1400x1050 64MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 SXGA
( strain on my eyes)
15 Inches: 1024x768 64MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 XGA
(same price as the 14.1 version)
15inches TFT FlexView 1400x1050 ATI Mobility Radeon X1300
(did not find much on this one, because the higher resolution one is usually discussed)
I am interested on your opinion, especially on the this Flexview version)
I am replacing my desktops with notebooks, so I will also buy a docking station.
For a first post this was pretty long, thanks in advance for your advice.

FlexView is very attractive. The color gamut is much larger, the brightness is better than on non-FlexView ThinkPads, vertical viewing angles are amazing and the black levels are so good as to defy logic.
The screen's power consumption is 60% higher which will shorten your battery life about 15-25% depending on your configuration and the screen is a good bit heavier than in non-FlexView models.
The 15" case is a good bit larger (in all 3 dimensions) and about a lb heavier than the 14" model and that extra space in the base goes unused.
So, given that portability is not your main concern, I would go with the FlexView.
BTW: I just noticed that you are looking at the SXGA+ 15" screen. My comments on color and black level are based on the UXGA screen. The SXGA+ screen is better than non-FlexView but I don't recall being as wow'ed by it as the UXGA. Others may have both at hand to do a direct comparison -- mine is from memory.

Greetings and welcome to the forum!stephan54 wrote:I am a new member from The Netherlands
I have been using T series ThinkPads since they were introduced years ago. I have had several of the 14" & 15" models. Personally, I really like the larger 15" display. Regarding the size & weight between the two, I really do not notice much of a difference and I carry my ThinkPad everywhere as I travel constantly on business. There is simply too many positive aspects of the 15" display to go back to a 14" for me.stephan54 wrote:Choosing a screen gives me most headaches,

I currently have the 15" flexview SXGA+ 1400x1050. It's an outstanding display. Terrific color, very wide viewing angle (great for presentations) and easy on the eyes. I'm in front of the computer 8-10 hours a day and this is the best display I have seen. When I place it alongside my T42 with 1024x768, there is a very significant difference.
1600x1200 results in very small fonts, especially when on the internet. It's strengths are apparent when design work is involved, cad/cam etc. So unless you do a lot of graphics work, OpenGL apps, and truly need a workstation, I see no advantage to the 1600 resolution. Especially when you consider the hefty price difference.
Hopefully this helps, let me know if you have other questions.

How about 2008-C8G and 2007-C8G?
Note, here in the US, IBM had mistakenly marked this model as discontinued in their ordering system. My rep was determined and called the plant to confirm that it was an error then placed the order. I had it 3 days later!

I have searched far and wide for a worldwide or region-specific TABOOK and come up with nothing. It probably does exist, but is for Lenovo employee eyes only.darrenf wrote:Where is the German TABOOK published?
Further to this, there are actually two MTM (machine type, model) numbering systems in the UK/Europe: e.g. UT063UK is equivalent to 200763G.

dimensions unclarity
I checked the 1400*1050 on two sxga screens of a 14.1 and a 15 inch Siemens Lifebook screen. The 14.1 notebook was much smaller, which seems logical to me. Having a look at the European Lenovo website, the same dimensions are quoted for the 14.1 and 15 inch T60 models. The first one being 300 grams lighter. Does the website state correct data or does the 14.1 model have a smaller footprint.
Thanks for your insight.
