R52 vs Z60 vs....

#1 Post by oql » Wed Apr 26, 2006 11:52 am

Hello everybody,
I'm new here and I desperatelly need a laptop(due to my studies)- my first one!!!
The machine should work well with statistics/math applications, programming and some GIS, seldom 3D... and maybe some movies, but no gaming...Vista compatibility would be an asset and must have DVD- burner as well, and mobility is still important, but it's a secondary issue.
That's how I've came to three choices, the order is not relevant:
Thinkpad R52, Z60m and Notebook N100 dual core.
The last model is described as having a very flexy lid and not esp. well build, but quite performant and significantly cheaper, while the other are both solid, well configurated and of course expensive.
I would rather choose between the R52 and Z60m, and Z60m being more media- oriented is getting some more points, but...is this a real IBM product? it has the same reliability? for the same money I can buy real Toshiba Tecra M or an even cheaper Toshiba Tecra A5 , both business line notebooks, I cannot decide between this Lenovo thing and another reliable produsent like Toshiba, f.instance...
My heart wants a Thinkpad R52, but my brain is making me confused(as always )...
I need the laptop in a couple of weeks, so any idea is more than welcome!!!

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
