Software Installer vs. ThinkVantage System Update (again)

#1 Post by ShaggyDog » Wed Apr 26, 2006 1:38 pm

Help desk explained that the software to use is the "software Installer", that the System Update function isn't being used anymore.
I know there was another thread, but couldn't find it.

This is confusing!
The previous threadsaid the opposite. It said to use System Update because Software Installer was going away.

My guess is that you are correct because Software Installer was updated this month and System Update has not been updated since July of 2005.

Nice to have my suspisions confirmed. As system updater didn't get all my drivers and everytime I use system installer it was updating itself so it looked to be the one to be used.

i think this is an area Lenovo can really improve over IBM,

Communicating with customers!! This type of stuff should be in an obvious place and Lenovo should build a richer customer portal.

You're right, communications seem to be a problem.
I initially sent an email to IBM help, saying system update was coming back with with an error message "package server unavailable...". Took 3 days for the reply to come back saying, can't help you, call the 1-800 #. That I did and the help desk person was friendly enough but said, as if it should be obvious, to use "Software Installer" not "System Update" as the latter is not being used. Nothing else, like sorry for the confusion, or a new download will correct it etc, just, don't use it, it doesn't work.....
