T43 vs. T60 vs. Z60t

#1 Post by snedunuri » Wed Apr 26, 2006 5:56 pm

Hello, I'm trying to chose between a T43 T60 and Z60t all priced very similarly (T60 an extra $150 more than the T43 and Z60t). The T60 looks like more of a performance beast with Duo (dual core?) processor and max of 3Gb memory but otherwise the machines are very similar (14" screens, under 5lbs). Are there noticiable performance differences between the machines? How about quality of the machines? any help would be appreciated

cheers

It all depends on what would be the use of the computer.
If you have the money then go with the T60

But a T43 is more than enough for most games and applications.

There are some of us who've had their hands on Z60s (I have) and T60s (I haven't) and are disappointed. Even with the sometimes-reported fan issues with T43s, they're a known issue, and you can get parts and accessories for them on the open market far more readily.

The T43 with dual-channel memory is great performer. Max RAM .... 2 GB, 3 GB ... is that really an issue for anyone? Maybe for 2% of the purchasing public.

Quick case study: search ebay for batteries, docks, Ultrabay Slim drive adapters for T43/2/1s, then perform the same search for T60s. (Note that the bezel shape on the T60 Ultrabay Slim components is different from the T4x.) I think that if you save a bit on a T42p or T43, then you'd save even more buying extra batteries and docks for it. Just my two cents, YMMV.

It does depend on what you are going to do with it, but I would say go for the T43 in this case. In just about all areas, quality, performance, etc...They perform very well. The T60 has a dual core processor as well whilst the Z60t is a lighter widescreen model.

Between the t43 and t60, I don't see much reason to get the t43 unless it's cheaper. Last time I looked they were the same price, so I would definitely go with the t60. Also, the t43 runs hotter than the t60 (and the fan runs more), in my experience, which also points me toward the t60.

I would only get the z60t if you really wanted the widescreen or the extra media stuff (usb ports, memory reader), or of course if it was much cheaper. And it will probably get replaced by a dual core Z model soon, if you can wait for that.

The build quality of the t43 and t60 seemed equivalent to me. There are some slight but noticeable differences between the two design-wise, but none of them seemed negative to me. I've heard some say the z60 build quality isn't as good as the T's, but I haven't seen one.
