Hard drive for T-42p?

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Wed Apr 26, 2006 9:37 pm

Will this work on my T-42P?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822145092

I have the ultra slim hard disk adapter for the ultra bay and would like to use a second drive for more data capacity.

Im a little confused by this thread
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=

If I do get the secondary drive will I be able to use both at the same time like I do with my external usb drive. My goal is to put music and such on this 100gb secondary drive and back up purposes while still using my primary drive as i normally would for primary applications etc.

Yes, you can use both at the same time. I have one and it works great. The second drive will be just like your external usb drive, except it won't be dangling on the side.

That thread refers to a T60p which is dealing with a SATA primary and a SATA or PATA drive as secondary. Your T42p is only using PATA drives and should have no problems.

Can I ask where you purchased this adapter? I have a 100GB hard drive that I'd love to be able to use w/ my T42

Yes, you can. You can use most any of the current 9.5mm 2.5" P-ATA drive on a T42.

You will only need to clone your new hd to the image of the old. To do so use
true image it is great it will take only around 60mins to do so.

There's another recent thread on just this topic. Search is your friend - feed it "ultrabay slim HDD adapter" and it will give you the thread. ;)

I actually got it with the second thinkpad I purchased, not sure where the orignal owner got it from. Called the "Thinkpad 2nd HDD adapter for ultrabay slim" same side as your cd drive.
