Cannot Create New Power Manager Schemes

#1 Post by Goetterdaemmerung » Wed Apr 26, 2006 11:07 pm

Just started having this problem (no important changes to the machine come to mind). I open up the power manager, click 'new' for a new scheme, fill in the details, click finish. The "Scheme Name" drop down box is blank, the System Settings half of the window is empty (clicking on the "expand" arrow to the left does nothing). The settings actually in effect are Maximize Battery Life. Closing the window and reopening will show Maximize Battery Life in the drop down box.

I've tried uninstalling, rebooting, installing, rebooting. No change.

Ideas?

Thank You GomJabbar I fixed mine already

This is message from hupsing

Hello everybody,

Hooray, I fixed it.
My problem were corrupted power profiles in the registry.
Maybe the problem occured using the tool Notebook Hardware Control 1.10 together with the Power Manager.

WARNING: Please make a backup of your registry before editing it.

To solve the problem I "cleaned" the following registry entries:

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies

and

\HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies
\HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Control Panel\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies
\HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Control Panel\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies
\HKEY_USERS\............\Control Panel\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies

and so on...

In all these branches there should be nothing but the default (windows) entries...
....\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies\1
....\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies\2
....\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies\3
....\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies\4
....\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies\5
....\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies\6

Do not delete these entries.

Higher numbers (>6) most often belong to profiles from tools like IBM Power Manager (Battery MaxiMiser) or Notebook Hardware Control. You can check that in the registry-key named "(Standard)".

When you clean all entries except number 1 - 6 you have a fresh setup for power profiles....
You can now install Power Manager or Battery Maximiser and should not get any problems with the profiles and switching between them.

I am not sure if Notebooks Hardware Control will make any problems with the schemes....theres is an option in this tool to let NHC manage his own power schemes...maybe this corrupts the registry entries and it is
therefore not possible (or recommended) to use both at the same time, NHC and Power Manager.

I hope this will help other guys who have trouble with their power profiles.

bye, hupsing

To get to the registry editor go to start>Run> type regedit.exe
Thank You hupsing
