need advise on buying HDD

#1 Post by nirvana0001 » Fri Apr 28, 2006 12:09 am

my tp is freaking lag when I am playing Battle Field 2, even though I re-installed my system and use HDD defragment tool. (I am sure it's neither GPU problem nor CPU problem)
So I decided to get a new HDD.
Is 7K100 good enogh? how is it compare to 5K80?
any suggestion would be greatly appreciate.

7K100 (or the Seagate Momentus 7200.1) has the highest performance you get for laptops right now, if I'm not mistaken.

By the way, I had a 5K80 in my old T42, and that disk was noticably slower than some other 5400RPM drives I've tried since. If you're sensitive to noise, you might want to go for the Seagate Momentus 5400.3 (I use this now with good results), but I gather that is not an issue for you.

HGST has the Image file...u can download it and burn at CD-RW...

I use the 7k60 and 5k100 100G for my x31..

the 7k60 is a little faster than 5k100 (100G) in the general purposes..

but if u copy files for over 1xx mb, it seems similar..

Just bought a Hitachi 7k100 100 GB drive as a second drive, and it's wonderful. I hear lots of good things from folks here using them for replacement primary disks.

Part #HTS721010G9AT00 I believe (that's what New Egg lists).

2672-KBU X32, 1.5GB RAM, 7200 rpm TravelStar HDD.

I am getting the 7k100 too. It will not make a difference when playing BF2. You will have to tweak your system a fair bit. The amount of RAM you have is a lot more important. I have 2GB and I can play BF2 on 1024x with low settings but maxed out distance.
