where exactly are the memory slots on the T60?
where exactly are the memory slots on the T60?
I've been searching around, and the best I can gather is that there is 1 slot underneath the palm rest, which means having to take the palm rest off to install it.
Where is the other one? Mine comes with 1 stick of 512mb, but my friend gave me his 2 sticks of 512mb out of his macbook, so I want to replace them both into the T60 so I can take advantage of the dual channel capabilities, which probably wont happen if I use the normal stick + 1 of the macbook's sticks.

The slots are stacked or overlapped depending on how you want to look at it.. The good news is the palmrest is much easier to remove than on the T40 series (fewer screws and none with screw caps). Just remove the indicated screws on the bottom then pull up on the end closer to the keyboard (gently).

thanks, got the memory installed, wasnt very difficult at all. I didnt even have to disconnect the fingerprint reader.
Only issue I had was putting it back on, it wasnt sitting right at first, but I just kind of fanagled it around until it sat flush and screwed it back together.
Thanks for the info....never had to install memory in the T40 I had before. Why doesnt IBM just make a slot at the bottom of the laptop for easy access to the memory instead of having to remove the palm rest like every other brand?

This is how it was done on the T4x but that machine didn't have a magnesium roll cage along the bottom of the case. It has been theorized that the rollcage would be weakened if there were a large cutout in the bottom for RAM. I haven't personally confirmed that the rollcage runs along the entire bottom as it is, though.jaybert wrote:Thanks for the info....never had to install memory in the T40 I had before. Removing the palmrest is now a matter of removing just four screws -- not much work IMHO.
