Screen blacks out every 3 seconds I dont move my mouse =(
Hi everyone…
PLEaSE HELPppppppppp…
My screen has been blacking out every 3 seconds unless I move my mouse continuously (just so that the thinkpad knows that someone is using the laptop continuously and will not hibernate by itself) Its like on this infinite hibernation/suspension mode. And nothing I do will stop it. I have already unchecked the box that enables hibernation. But that’s useless. Restarting obviously does not help too. My friend has a similar problem but his problem is solved once he restarts his thinkpad. Not mine. Its really driving me crazy that I have to move my house randomly around the screen while I am reading emails. I am hoping I will not need to send my thinkpad to a shop because I suspect its an IBM glitch and hence somewhere out where someone who ran into the same problem will be able to provide me with a solution.
Please do reply if you know how to help. Or even just to tell me Im not alone. *clutches hair in frustration* =[

sounds like your power settings could be the cause of this..
at least thats where i would look, first..
and then i would also check the display closed sense switch to be sure it is not jammes or otherwise kept in the down position..
if you ave a bootable CD or a floppy one of the first tests i would run is to boot to DOS..
if hte display STILL goes off, then its hardware..

Hi Bill,
thanks for the very prompt reply!
with much hope i checked my power setting. i have disabled everything in my power settings even remotely related to the shutdown.
- enable hibernation
- System standby -> Never
- When I close the lid on my portable computer -> Do nothing
- When I press the sleep button on my portable computer -> Do nothing
Last but not least I dusted my closed lid button and checked that it wasnt jammed.
*moving my mouse every 3 seconds*
I didnt try booting with DOS because I dont have a bootable CD at the moment...but I'll try if i can get my hands on one...
Thanks for trying to help..let me know if you have more suggestions..
* Ive just restarted my laptop..and I realised that my screen doesnt black out while it is still starting up (ie at the IBM screen and the screen where Windows is still loading. The blacking out problem only starts when it reaches my login window stage)
Does that mean that it could be a problem with my configurations, and not a hardware problem? I think this problem first started a couple of days ago when I tried to use Fn-F3 to switch off the screen. When I switched it back on, the blacking out problem started even though this wasnt the first time Ive used Fn-F3.

Hi Realdan,
yups Ive went into Bios previously and reset everything to default but the problem was not solved. I then went to fiddle with the power settings in Bios -- but to no avail. Thanks for your suggestion though. I'll probably be calling IBM this coming week to see if they have a solution for me. =(
