Hi.
I ma thinking about replacing the cells in my t40 battery.
Has anyone done this before?

Yes it has been done before. I believe I saw a thread on this in the ThinkPad 770, 600 Series & Transnote forum. Some people buy up dead batteries, removing the dead cells and constructing batteries out of the remaining "good" cells. These are often called refurbished batteries.

Be aware you do not want to solder onto a lithium cell, as the applied heat could make the battery explode. Lithium cells can be dangerous if improperly handled.

OK, you change the individual cells, but how do you reset the counter that's separate from the cells?

There is a eprom that holds the information of the battery ,that can be reprogrammed.

Is the EPRM reprogramer available to everyone? If so, where do you get it?

I hope not. If it is, then we are going to start seeing "new" batteries on eBay with 0 cycles, but the batteries will be old and worn down.

The programmers are availible for anyone they cost 200usd maximum.
The process itself is somewhat complex to preform ,you need to desolder the epron and decode the information inside.
Easiest way would be to copy new battory information and use this.
