help regarding t43 charger

#1 Post by randolph » Sat Apr 29, 2006 11:05 am

hi, i need some advice on the charger i'm using for my t43.
Due to my carelessness, i left my charger in school and forgot to take it back home with me.
Therefore i searched my store room and found my fathers old ibm charger and was wondering if it is safe to use.
I think the charger's about 8 year old.

the specs are:

P/N 12J1443 (is this the model number?)

Input: 100-240v ~1.0A - 0.55A , 50 - 60Hz

Output: 16v -- 2.2A

Listed

Class 2 power supply

Thanks!!

It just OK to use this 2.2A changer.Because some case the changer could not supply enough power to T43,just 2.2A*16V=35.2W it can supply.
But if you just use this changer to change you TP battery,i think the is powerful enough.
Wish you have a good luck!

Basically no. Its a 35W power supply which will appear to work but does not have adequate energy capacity to run the T4x ThinkPad models, which are designed for a 72 W (~ 16V @ 4.5A) power supply. This can lead to a number of possible failure modes over time.

This has been previously covered in more depth in this forum so a little work with the search facility should turn up those discussions.

Cheers,

Bill

But you can charge the battery with the computer off and after a few hours you will have it ready fully charged to use it until you get your charger.

Definitely not recommended if its in a T4x. It might be OK with one of the external chargers.

As JD has said in the past, this has been covered "in Ad Nauseum" different spec chargers is just not a good idea, and I emphasize the different spec part. Why take the chance.

you may get a new charger from IBM website, ebay or other pc hardware shop, just to bear in mind that you get the same currently i.e. 4.5A output adapter and it might work well without any power failure for your T43 thinkpad

2. X60s 1703-CA3 powerful
