Loose DVD-RW drive on 15" T42(p)
I am just wondering if someone else got a loose DVD-RW with their 15" Thinkpads?
Mine is very loose, I mean, With your fingers you can move it up and down between 2 and 3 mm.
You can tight it with the screw provided, but you can see that something does not look well engineered! I don't care much bout the visual ackardness, but about the dust that will enter through that large space

Why do you feel the need to add spongy tape? Its not going to fall out is it? Mine has a small gap too, but I don't consider it a problem. Not like it wobbles on its own, I have to push on it to get it to move. A little airspace can be a good thing (allows some heat dissapation).

I just checked my T42p 2373-GRU (14") and it's in there firmly. But the T42p 2373-KYU (15") that I'm just now comparing it with (an evaluation model from work)... there is alot more movement for the Multiburner than there is for the 14" model. It's actually significant enough that I can hear it clank when I shake the machine back and forth... no clanking with my 14" T42p... just one more reason I'm glad I returned my original T42p 15" model for my current model.

Uff... every one against me now...
Ok, I am being too picky!!! It does moves a little if turned laptop upside-down, but it is only the outside. In the inside and were the connectors are it is well fixed. Most probably between parameters establised by IBM (then, of course, 5 dead pixels are too!). But my A20p's two drives has a perfect fit.
As tselling said, a gap is better for heat disipation!

This shows that no thinkpad is perfect. First it was said that the 15inc had better keyboard and fit and finish. Now the DVD. Versus the 14 inch 50/50 keyboard but better fit on the DVD.Conmee wrote:I just checked my T42p 2373-GRU (14") and it's in there firmly.
