My T43 Working Temperature!

#1 Post by gunston » Sun Apr 30, 2006 10:59 pm

hi all,
room temp about 28degC.
using RMclock and FanUtility, setting the Fan turn-on threshold at 54degC(level 2 fan speed).

Plugged in my 9-cells battery, working and surfing net with it all the time, temperature shot up to 53degC, hasn't reach my threshold level yet,

Question here:
Will this 53degC operating temperature spoil some of the hardware inside?

Nope; I have operated systems at that temperature for days on end and no ill has come of it. :)

She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Hi,

I've been running 24x7 the world computing grid in the background since it started (1.5 years ago) with my T40 and later also with my T42, which has resulted in a continued temp of between 70 and 80C for the T40 and 60 to 70C for the T42, and both machines still work perfect and as new...

your system operating temperature seems like a bit high compare to mine.

Hi, not that much... this looks high just because I'm running the grid thing... try to run something really CPU intensive as that and/or prime95,.. and you will see your temps go high... Note that I have both machines undervolted and I've applied artic silver in both processors... and if you find something that is also GPU intensive, then the heat can even be a bit higher.

could you take some photos of how you place the artic silver on your cpu ... it would be great for us to have a look on how you did that...
thanks

Hi, sorry. I did not take photos when I applied the artic silver a few months ago, and am not planning to do it in the near future again.. however, the process is very simple and easy as long as you follow the hardware maintenance manual (published in IBM site) to dismount and remount your unit... Yo have to remove the keyboard, the palm rest and then the heatsink/fan unit which is attached with three screws... apply the thermal compound and reattach all.
