Strange Wireless Problem

#1 Post by jsteele » Sun Aug 01, 2004 9:50 am

I have a T-40 with dual band 802.11A/B wireless. We have a dual band wireless network at home using a DLink DI-764 11A/B Router. Also in our home network are several other notebooks and two desktop PCs along with a laser printer running on a DLink DP-311 (11B wireless print server).

My Thinkpad works with the network fine on either 11A or 11B mode with one exception; in 11A mode I cannot communicate with the 11B print server. The T-40 works fine with the print server in 11B mode however. One of the desktops has a Netgear dual band 11A/B card configured for an 11A connection to the router and it can use the 11B print server without a problem. Two of the other notebooks are Thinkpad 600E's with Netgear 11A PCMCIA cards and they can also use the 11B print server as can my wife's Dell notebook (11B only).

As I said, the only problem we are having is with my T-40 in 11A mode talking to the 11B print server. Clearly this is not a show stopper as I can simply run in 11B mode but it is 'a puzzlement'. I'm curious if anyone can shed any light on this behavior.
