X40 USB boot

Has anyone had any success with booting the X40 from an usb hard disk or usb flash memory? (I'm not interested in floppy or cdrom boot)

I feel silly asking this question, but was curious. Someone said w510 could boot from a usb. If so, could an older os be booted that way...like 98se...
