T41: To Upgrade or Not?

My T41 2373-3HU has been through a lot and been extremely faithful. It's in great condition but seeing that we've already advanced a few generations, and the warranty will be up in October, do you think it's time to upgrade? I can get a T60 2007-4CU for about $1350. What sort of resale price for the T41 do you think I'd be able to get if I decided to upgrade, since it's in excellent condition and the warranty can be extended?

IMHO a "fair" price for that unit would be somewhere around $500 to $550.

You might get a bit more for it on eBay, but that's always a crap shoot unless you set a high reserve.

Nope. Stock.

Wow. That's a lot lower than I expected, seeing that the underlying technology hasn't changed so much that it's antiquated by today's performance standards. What's the downward driving factor?

I guess I'll continue to plug alone until work buys me a new ThinkPad

Three newer generations of T series Thinkpads! T42, T43 and the T60, the introduction of which has taken the bottom out of T series prices.

I feel your pain. I'll probably be selling two my T41p's in the near future, both of which are seriously upgraded since purchase (1.5GB RAM, 7K100 HDs, 4X multi-burners, Atheros a/b/g cards) in order to pay for my recently ordered T60p.

I bought them cheap awhile ago and fear I won't come close to my purchase price when I ultimately sell them, even with the upgrades.

Market conditions and demand always prevail. Right now my 2.6GHz A31p is worth far more than any of the T40s I have around and probably would rival what I can get for any of my T41p's.
