Vista on R51e

#1 Post by pizzahut88 » Wed May 03, 2006 2:55 am

Hi Guys . . .
Has anyone tried installing Vista on their R51e or R52?
If yes, are you able to use the wireless lan?

I have the Vista Disc . . . & it's tempting . . .
wanna try . . . but gotta make sure at least the Wifi works . . .
Any tips and pointers welcome.

News regarding drivers for R51e

#2 Post by pizzahut88 » Fri May 05, 2006 11:13 am

I have booted to Windows Vista.
Using build 5365 . . . Beta 2.
Wireless Lan, display card Express 200m will work right away without further ado.

All other stuff won't work.
Not even sound card.
I have tried to install various xp thinkvantage tools.
None of them will work.

How fast is it?
On a Pentium M 2.0Ghz, 1GB ram, 128MB ATi X200 display.
Vista ran pretty smoothly.

My first impress is Vista is a [censored] copy of Mac OSX!
Even the explorer has copied that style.
which now begs the question why not get a Mac anyway?

But then I love thinkpads . . .

You don't have the drivers to run vista properly on your machine, it really is not a windows issue. I had beta 5302 running on my t42 for a while. Wait till vista comes out on Lenovo machines then you should be able to get drivers for your hardware.

I run OSX tiger on my t42 now and it is really a great operating system, but comparing vista on a R series or any series for that matter right now to OSX is like comparing apples and oranges. I'm not buying a new laptop until Lenovo ships with Vista which hopefully will be later this year.
