T23 Refurb Recommendations

#1 Post by lappot » Sun Aug 01, 2004 10:35 am

I am looking for a basic word processing, internet browsing laptop and came across this T23 at Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... 80-0874251

Would this be a good setup and is it safe to buy refurbs not directly through IBM?

Would appreciate any input.

Thanks

Well, IBM has 7 day money back guaranty. Amazon doesn't. However IBM's price is still higher: $854 for the same model with 128MB RAM and Wireless b.

It's from J&R who have been in business many, many, years. You shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks for the replies.

Does anyone know if these units are refurbished by IBM and then sold through J&R (via Amazon) or are they just serviced by J&R techs before sold?

What kind of condition can I expect the laptop to be in? Functing but all scratched and banged up or restored cosmetically with replacement of worn parts?

Thanks again!

They are refurbished by IBM. The units (shipped directly) from IBM are always in excellent, mint condition. They clean it, replace scratched parts etc. You shouldn't worry. I guess the models via amazon/J&R are the same.

ibm allows you up to 7 days to use your refurbished thinkpad and decide if you want to keep it.   they have a no-questions-asked returns policy if you find something that you don't like.

i bought two T22s through the certified used department and returned them both when a T23 popped up for sale a few days later.   and, ibm pays for express shipping both ways.

ibm's prices are slightly higher than what you'll find elsewhere (ie: ebay, et al) but, in my experience, the ability to pick-and-choose between units far outweighs minor price issues.
